- His initial marketing strategy was handing out food on the streets to appeal to customers. This completely fancied college kids who thought his selling point was overtly funny.
- Unlike other franchises, Jimmy John’s is 98% franchise owned. A considerable number of chains are corporate owned.

What is Jimmy John’s?
Jimmy John Liautaud himself opened up the first Jimmy John Restaurant in 1983 when he was only 19 years old. Although he wanted to start a hot dog outlet, it proved to be too expensive for his $25,000 budget loan from his dad. Having no other way out, he opted to open a sandwich model and sell subs as well.
Initially, his father owned 48% of the business while Liautaud owned 52%. Later on in 1985, Liautaud bought his father’s share and become a sole proprietor. Jimmy John opened more stores before turning the venture into a franchise in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, in1993.
The restaurant experienced accelerated growth and in 2001, the 100th store was opened. The restaurant has received numerous awards for instance the Golden Chain Award in 2012.
